On the road across the Sandvírkurheiði moor, before reaching the village of Bakkafjörður (about 75 inhabitants), the farm Bakki is the place where Afi á Knerri, the main character of the novel, Fjallkirkjan(The Church in the Mountain by Gunnar Gunnarsson), lived. The village is located in the bay of Bakkaflói, but because there is no harbour, only small-scale fishing is carried out. Bakkafjörður is a very beautiful and sunny place in summer. To survive, there is a petrol station, which is also a mini-market
