The area between Lake Assal and Goubet offers superb volcanic landscapes: faults, crevasses, solidified lava flows that plunge into the sea or spread out between the reliefs. The panorama is superb. Lake Assal is the third saltiest lake on Earth, after the Dead Sea and Lake Tiberias. Located at 157 m below sea level, it is characterized by the dark or bright blue of its waters and by the salt crust that borders it. The latter is so white, so thick, that it is called pack ice. The whole thing stands out against a band of tawny sand and the peaks of dark mountains. A unique and unforgettable setting!
