Podolínec is located in the valley of the Poprad River, between the Spišská Magura and Levoča mountains. It experienced the development of the towns in the Spiš region when it became an independent town in 1292. First Polish, it came under the rule of Hungary as an independent town, and then became Polish again from 1412 to 1772 following a peace treaty. It has preserved many monuments typical of the architecture of the Spiš region.
