West of Spišská Nová Ves begins the well-appointed Slovak Paradise. This natural park, declared protected natural area as of 1964 and national park in 1988, covers 32 800 hectares. It is covered by 90% of poplars forests of spruce, pine, fir, larch and oaks, populated with bear, lynx, or wolves, deer and wild boar. It also has the particularity of possessing several endemic species such as 17 butterflies and 20 flowers. From a geological point of view, the Slovak Paradise is made of steep karst peaks and peaks at 1270 metres above sea level and dug by the River Honrad and its tributaries of cellars and gorges where flows of torrents that sometimes turn into angry waterfalls. The south of the Slovak Paradise is a magnificent point of view on the chain of Tatras. Hiking paths were traced by hikers at the end of the th century. The trails, perfectly marked, are numerous, accessible to beginners, and equally exciting for the most experienced. Some hiking trails, indicated on the VKÚ map of the Slovak Paradise, are available for atvs. In order to enter the park, we have to pay a reasonable fee of 1 € for the maintenance of the park. In winter, the Slovak Paradise, perhaps even more beautiful this season, becomes the one of ski touring enthusiasts. There is also an important ski resort, Mlynky, near Dedinky. The two best access to the park is in Čingov and Dedinky.
