This picturesque little village lies 14 km from the Polish border on the edge of the High Tatras in the area known as Belianske Tatry. Ždiar is full of charm with its traditional wooden houses, some of which date back to the 17th century. Hiking and skiing opportunities are not as plentiful as in the other resorts in the massif, but Ždiar does offer some interesting cultural sites. Here, houses are numbered according to the order in which they were built. It's one of the most typical villages in the region, far from the big hotels that are unfortunately springing up everywhere else.
