it has about 17,036 inhabitants. This small town in the Upper Spiš region is located in northern Slovakia, near the border with Poland, in the valley of the Poprad River. Poprad is 49 km to the southwest, Prešov is 62 km to the southeast and Nowy Sącz in Poland is 50 km to the north. The oldest mention of Stará Ľubovňa dates back to 1292. In 1364, King Louis granted the town of Stará Ľubovňa the status of a free royal town. The city's boom continued after 1412, when it was attached to Poland. Attached to the Kingdom of Hungary in 1772, it may be worth a stop for its lovely castle overlooking the city and its open-air museum.
