Hejnice is much more than the northern gateway to the Jizera Mountains Nature Reserve. The village is located on the Smědá River. For a long time it has been the place of a great pilgrimage. In 1211, a sifter is said to have seen an angel on the riverbank. But that's not all. The church of the Visitation (1729), built on an older chapel, houses a venerated statue of the Virgin from the 14th century. To the south of the town, one will take an easy path leading to the reserve to access the Černý Potok waterfalls. Many other walks are of course possible and lead to beautiful rock formations along small streams.
