Frýdlant is the most important town in this border region north of the Jizera Mountains. In the Middle Ages, it was already an important cultural and industrial center, competing with Liberec. Many people come here primarily to visit its beautiful castle, located 1.5 km from the city center. The town itself is worth a short walk in the center, where you can visit the parish church, linger in front of the town hall and its high pointed tower and stroll through the few streets around, which have kept a very German imprint, as the Germanic community remained very important in the town until 1945.
