Between Cape Coast and Sekondi, Komenda is a small coastal town with a small fishing port. Without particular interest, even if its coastal environment is pleasant, it has two old European forts: Fort English and Fort Vreedenbirg. The first one is located on the road to Takoradi, on the right bank of Komenda. The few remains that have survived the passage of time and battles give an idea of the rivalry between the English and Dutch in the 17th and 18th centuries. The construction of the fort dates back to 1687. The second one, located 20 km west of Elmina, is totally in ruins and is not really worth a visit.
