South of Rantepao, on the road to Makale, you'll find ancient sarignan (traditional hearses used to transport the deceased during the funeral ceremony) forming an arc around a rante (a group of funerary menhirs also known as megaliths). This village, built in 1983 for a ceremony, was due to be demolished, but was eventually preserved around the stones. It's not a large site, nor a particularly important one, but a short cultural break to discover a tradition that normally comes more from the northern Toraja, who didn't use Tau-Tau effigies but these menhirs to represent their ancestors.
