2 km north of Rantepao. The "Pasar Hewan Bolu" cattle market is held every 6 days, on the right after the bridge. It's the biggest buffalo market in Sulawesi. Everyone comes to proudly display their animals: roosters, pigs and especially buffaloes. Many species are represented. The fighting buffaloes are particularly impressive. Expect to pay over 40,000,000 Rp for a "classic" black buffalo and over 500,000,000 Rp for an adult albino... Traditionally, buffaloes are indispensable at all important moments in Toraja life, especially during funeral ceremonies. Good shoes are essential.
