The history of Siguntu' is rich in meaning. Originally, these Tongkonan were located in Tirorano. However, due to their less strategic location, the family rebuilt them and regrouped them in Siguntu', preserving their original bamboo roofs, which makes them even more exceptional, whereas modernity and tin roofs predominate today. The Siguntu' village was opened to the public in 1974, with a traditional ceremony attended by delegates from 60 foreign countries at the PATA conference in Jakarta. Since then, Toraja has become a renowned and captivating tourist destination.
