Rantepao is the Toraja country's flagship destination, attracting visitors from Europe and all over the world, including many French and Italians. Since the 1970s, the mountain town has served as a natural starting point for exploring the Toraja region. Souvenir stores display a variety of local antiques near points of interest, and restaurants offer traditional Toraja dishes as well as Western fare such as steak and French fries. It's a great place to find a guide, the local national sport, many of whom speak English and some French. You won't see many tourists wandering around town during the day.
