This small town, located about ten kilometers from Copenhagen, developed around Charlottenlund Castle, a royal summer residence built south of the capital. It owes its name to the queen-consort Charlotte-Amelie of Denmark who was responsible for its construction in 1733. Baroque style building, it was remodeled in the very sober neoclassical style in 1880. The castle with its bright white facade is not open to visitors, but is used for events. But don't miss the gardens which are open to the public all year round. This holiday resort, bordered to the east by the Øresund strait, has remained a wealthy district where it is good to stroll.
