At the time, the forestry industry made the surrounding area prosperous. This epic story can be discovered at the Moulin des Pionniers historic site, which offers a real trip back in time, especially since the site is animated in season. La Doré is also a Mecca for hunting and fishing, especially at the Ashuapmushuan wildlife reserve, a few kilometres north. A lookout on the Saint-Joseph road, towards Normandin, also offers beautiful views of the Ashuapmushuan River. Two events worth mentioning: the Festival des Camionneurs (heavy trucks) and the Rallye des Loups (snowmobile races).
