This town, founded in 1854, owes its name to the battle of the Crimea that the Franco-British troops had just won over the Russian army. Initially an agricultural and forestry centre, its industrialization began with the establishment of the Price paper mill, then the Isle-Maligne hydroelectric complex, and was consolidated in the 1940s with the installation of the Alcan aluminum smelter, which now belongs to the Rio Tinto Alcan group (visit by reservation). Cultural and artistic life, heritage neighbourhoods, numerous outdoor activities, more than 42 km of beaches: Alma is the capital of Québec's "Blueberry Country"!
