Bordered on the south by the Bay of Fundy, Alma is a picturesque fishing village. Lobster restaurants, bakeries, stores, cafes, microbreweries and resort accommodations line Route 114 and the surrounding area. Just across the Upper Salmon River is the gateway to Fundy National Park, a must-see in New Brunswick, if not the Maritimes. Formerly known as Salmon River, this village officially adopted its new name in 1855 when the parish of Alma was created to commemorate the British and French victory at the Battle of Alma the previous year.
