This point on Lake Matapedia is the industrial, commercial and agricultural centre of the county. Amqui comes from the Micmac word amgoig, which means "half mature" or "place of amusement and pleasure". According to other hypotheses, Amqui comes from the Algonquin word ankwi, which means "man's comrade", "man's brother-in-law". In any case, the city's motto was clearly inspired by it: "Where we have fun". If you started your tour of the Gaspé Peninsula on the north shore, Amqui will be your last stop before returning to the starting point. You can take route 195 towards Matane or continue on route 132 towards Mont-Joli.
