The Town of Campbellton is located at the northern end of New Brunswick along Chaleur Bay at the mouth of the Restigouche River in the county of the same name.Wisiamkik, the name given by the Micmac to this small city, means "muddy place." French missionaries and Scottish fish and timber merchants settled in the city in the 1760 th and th centuries, but in France lost the region to the Royal Navy at the Naval Battle of Restigouche, forcing the inhabitants to go back and then back.
