A large bridge links Pointe-à-la-Croix to New Brunswick. A cross, once planted by the Micmacs on a point of the Restigouche River, inspired its name. It was here that the Battle of the Restigouche, the last confrontation between France and England, was re-enacted. It's also home to Gaspésie's largest aboriginal community, Listuguj, renowned for its handicrafts and fine leather goods. In front of the Sainte-Anne-de-la-Restigouche monastery, the hull of the Machault is clearly visible. The Restigouche church burned down 11 times, until a relic, a fragment of bone from Saint Anne's arm, was deposited there.
