Concepción is not favoured by international tourists, who prefer to head south to the vastness of the Patagonian mountains. However, the city, located along the Bío-Bío river, is particularly pleasant. It offers a festive student atmosphere, a famous fresco and an eventful history, one of the richest of the country: to be put in contrast undoubtedly with the current social situation, the VIII Region being the poorest of Chile. Beautiful small villages of traditional fishermen are scattered along the coast, and the amateurs can look at the coal mines which made the greatness then the decadence of the region.
