The most beautiful religious buildings Tbilissi

At one end of Avlabari square, the church Sourp Baghdjian of Etchmiazine, the only Armenian church in Tbilisi, alongside the cathedral Sourp Baghdjian de Méïdan, to be still in office. At the time of writing, it is being renovated - the neighbourhood has been fouet the earthquake of 2002.

With its coloured roof and bulbs, it is not mistaken, it is a Russian church! This beautiful building, where the office is said in Georgian and Russian, is a good point to orient itself in the neighbourhood. 

One of the saddest cases of extinction of heritage is the huge collapsed Armenian church, between Chekhov and Isani streets (on the right of Métékhi street when you go from Métékhi to Avlabari), which is sunk. Sourp Baghdjian was built between 1806 and 1808 by Armenian refugees from Echmiatsin (the Armenian Vatican). Its neoclassical structure incorporates the canons of the Georgian and Armenian architectures of the Late Middle Ages. In front of the church, a memorial dedicated to Armenians killed by the Soviet Army at the demonstration of 9 April 1989.

It was built in 1870-77 in baroque style. It is the largest Catholic church in Georgia. Masses are given daily, sometimes in English, and some specifically for the assyro-chaldean-chaldean community.
