GREAT SYNAGOGUE

Going up Leselidizis qucha (aka Kota Abkhazis) street from Meidan, the first important building on the left is the main synagogue in Tbilisi. It is a brick building from 1910, with a seven-branch candlestick on its roof. On the first floor, you can visit the meeting room where you will be shown the Torah. Tbilisi used to have a very large Jewish community, which has been in sharp decline since the last century due to Soviet persecution and economic difficulties. It used to be a very lively Jewish neighbourhood.
