The Bardenas Reales have been declared a natural park and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which requires responsible behavior from visitors. There is a regulation with the necessary recommendations in order not to harm the fauna and flora. This is one of the reasons, in addition to security, why access to visitors is limited from 8am to dusk. More than 400 km² to be explored by 200 km of dirt and often rocky paths. The GR-13 trail in the north is accessible by mountain bike. Beware of the heat in summer and the cierzo, a violent wind. Go to the park information center to get a map.The entrance path between Valtierra and Arguedas continues to El Ferial lake, where there is an area set up for visitors. This part corresponds to the north of the area, called the White Bardenas. Another road, the NA-125, arrives from the south in the Black Bardenas, between Tudela and Ejea de los Caballeros. It is a breathtaking lunar landscape. Legend has it that all the trees in this region were sacrificed to build the ships of the Invincible Armada. To the north, the White Bardenas are the most deserted because of a salty soil where erosion has cut capricious shapes. In the south, the Black Bardenas have developed a Mediterranean forest on a limestone and clay soil. Eagles and vultures crisscross these skies of intense blue.
