Carcastillo is a wine-growing municipality of 2,500 inhabitants, crossed by the waters of the River Aragón, a tributary of the Ebro, deserves a stop to visit the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María de la Oliva. Built in the 12th century, it is one of the three monasteries still preserved in the Ribera de Navarra and is, with its vast proportions, one of the most authentic examples of Cistercian art in Spain. It is currently home to around twenty Cistercian monks praying and meditating in the Gothic cloister. The city is also home to the 13th-century church of El Salvador and the 16th-century palace of the abbots of La Oliva.
