From La Granja, the CL-601 road follows the river Eresma. Nestled in the wooded foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains, the village of Valsaín lives off the exploitation of wood. The trunk of the Valsaín Scots Pine can reach up to 40 m in height. On 17 January, on the occasion of San Antón, a traditional woodcutting competition is held in the locality. La Boca del Asno (The Donkey's Muzzle) is a landscaped area by the riverside where one can leave the car for a picnic or a stroll among the pine trees. If it's the season, you may well come across some delicious boletus or lactea.
