If you have always dreamed of castles in Spain, Manzanares el Real is the place to go. The castle, which is perfectly preserved, reflects its medieval fortress silhouette in the water of the Santillana dam. The village was founded by shepherds from Segovia in the mid-13th century. Nevertheless, don't expect a period village. Apart from the castle, the church, the town hall and the building housing the cinema, the buildings are recent and not very aesthetic. Manzanares is also the starting point for hikes in the Cuenca Alta de Manzanares Natural Park. In summer, you can swim in the Manzanares River.
