Like many villages in the province of Cuenca, Huete experienced the arrival and settlement of the Romans, Visigoths and Moors, before being reconquered by the Christians. The town still has traces of the Moorish quarter (San Gil), the Jewish quarter (Atienza) and eight Christian parishes. A visit to this small town of more than 1,700 inhabitants will allow you to discover its churches, palaces, monasteries, the most important of which is that of the Merced, and convents such as the old convent of Jesus and Mary, which today houses its museum of photography. Information: Tourist Office, Plaza de la Merced, 1 ( www.huete.org).
