East of Ierapetra, the coastal road follows the Long Beach (a long sandy beach often swept by the wind) for about 5 kilometers. From Koutsounari to Agia Fotia, there is not much to report: the coast has been developed in a more or less successful way to welcome tourists in the northern coast style. The interest of this area lies mainly in the hinterland: going, for example, from Koutsounari to Agia Ioannis. The massif of Mount Thriptis offers the opportunity of superb hikes in the middle of a still intact nature. Just before reaching the village of Koutsounari, there is the only camping site in the area.
