In the middle of the Malia-Agios Nikolaos axis, Neapolis is one of the possible access points to the Lassithi plateau. Few people stop here. It is, however, a pleasant place to stop for a drink in the large, green central square or to visit the few sites of interest, but we wouldn't necessarily recommend staying here. Formerly called Kares, Neapolis was rebuilt as Neachori, then Neapolis. It was here that Petros Philargos was born in 1340 and became Pope in Rome under the name of Alexander V. Neapolis was formerly the capital of Lassithi. The site of Driros is 2 kilometers away.
