The road that leads from Matmata to Toujane is superb. After crossing a wood of eucalyptus, nature appears in all its grandeur: the mountains in front, a large desert plateau below. Toujane is a superb village on the mountainside with 800 inhabitants and has 3 mosques, an oasis and houses dug into the slope. We never tire of admiring its corners and its precious crafts. Toujane is famous for its margoum carpets woven with beautiful traditional Berber patterns by the women of the village and dyed with vegetable dyes. Agriculture here is centered on olive trees, date palms and fig trees.
