Guermassa is one of the most beautiful citadel-villages of the Dahar region. Perched between 450 and 500 meters above sea level, it spreads over 17 hectares on the crest and the hill of Djebel Kedim. Guermassa is a troglodytic village perfectly integrated into its natural environment. Organized in rows of troglodytic houses dug between the geological layers and using the materials of their rocks, it is in perfect harmony with the morphology and geology of the mountain it occupies. The village is rich in several heritage components typical of the Dahar: a citadel ksar at its summit (of which there are only ruins) called galla, a ksar intended for the storage of crops, a mosque dated 1860, an oil mill, troglodytic dwellings in number and even a necropolis. Guermassa indeed hosts a children's cemetery, of which some bones can be seen - sensitive souls, beware. Unfortunately, the village was totally abandoned in the 1980s and, despite its incredible heritage potential, the site has not yet been the subject of any protection and safeguarding initiative... It is threatened by the risk of degradation following this total abandonment. On foot, the complete tour of the village requires at least one hour, and we advise you to make this visit with a guide to understand all the richness of the site!
