3 km from Midoun, east of the island, and 19 km southeast of Houmt Souk. There is an important mosque, the El Kateb mosque, of Ottoman style. Built in the late nineteenth century, it is a reduced and simplified imitation of the Hagia Sofia Mosque in Istanbul. The low dome is preceded by an entrance surmounted by small domes in the manner of the Djerbian menzels. The architectural style proves that the founder of this mosque, Ali el Kateb, was influenced during his travels by Byzantine art. The village, surrounded by orchards, olive groves and vineyards, is famous for its fruit production and the enchantment of its gardens.
