The 9 kilometers of road leading from Toujane to Zmerten offer visions of greenery contrasting with the aridity of the region. Indeed, the area is crossed by the wadi Zmerten and the land is developed in jessour. The jessour are small earthen dykes built across the beds of small rivers to retain rainwater and allow agriculture. On these jessour are cultivated olive trees but also other fruit trees and crops. Zmerten is a small Berber village where you will meet old people with tattooed faces and many animals: life here is above all rural. This village is an excellent base for hiking.
