Ciudad Neily is located only 18 kilometers from its Panamanian neighbor. Whether you're driving down from San Vito or following the Interamericana, it's the only major town you'll come across, right in the middle of a banana and African palm production area. Neily is a small, quiet, fairly urbanized town, which is gently lulled into a muggy torpor by the first rays of sunlight. Founded in 1946, its name honors Ricardo Neily Jop, a citizen of Lebanese origin, recognized as the founder of the city (who died in 2000).
