This small town experienced its greatest period of development after the discovery of gold veins in the area. Miners and merchants flocked to this small center. The population movement has decreased, the infrastructure has remained. Its 9,000 inhabitants live on a coast that has long been cursed: Puerto Jiménez would have been founded by a group of prisoners sent here with orders never to set foot on the so-called mainland again. There is still talk of people going mad in this climate... Today, it is also the main entry point to Corcovado National Park, at least for the entrances to La Leona and Los Patos.
