It's hard to believe that the thick jungle between Puerto Jimenez and Carate hides the village of Cabo Matapalo. At the tip of the Osa Peninsula, just across from Pavones Abyss (the most popular beach for surfing in Costa Rica), the beaches of Matapalo are also an excellent destination. Cabo Matapalo is a favorite with surfers who go to Playa Pan Dulce to enjoy the southern break and the beautiful breakers. Two other surf spots, Backwash - with a very explicit name - and Playa Matapalo - with its barrels - will delight experienced surfers. These three spots of anthology are to be savored in period of rain, the rest of the year they lend themselves well to the paddle board. At 17 kilometers from Puerto Jimenez, and halfway on the road to Carate and the park, a few lodges signal the access on the left, as well as a restaurant at the edge of the track, essentially frequented by American tourists in shorts that you will see, also, returning to their hotel on the side of the road leading to the Corcovado park. This is where one of the most luxurious hotels in the country is located (even THE most luxurious): Lapa Rios. Dream beach, luxuriant vegetation, diversified fauna, no wonder that well-informed tourists in search of nature and solitude on their board spend a few days there.
