The village of Girasole is located a few kilometres north of Tortoli. The village has a population of just over a thousand, but its history dates back to 2000 BC. The Romans founded the most important port in the area here. Its name "Sunflower" has been certified since the Middle Ages. Today, Girasole is known for its golden beach, for its small 16th century Gothic-Catalan style church. The Madonna di Monserrato is celebrated every first Sunday of September with costumed cavalcades. The hotels offer even cheaper accommodation than in the neighbouring towns of Tortoli and Santa Maria Navarrese.
