Porto Torres is the entry point for many tourists from France and northern Italy. A fully equipped terminal welcomes the giant seagoing ships that carry motorhomes, cars and trucks in an endless round in summer. The Romans made Turris Libisonis a major commercial center, which it has remained to this day. In the Middle Ages, the town was the capital of the Judicat of Porto Torres, before being abandoned due to pirate attacks. The town then fell into decline, until its revival in the 20th century. The remains of Turris Libisonis include well-preserved thermal baths and beautiful mosaics.
