The interest of Igoumenitsa, a pretty little town of 10,000 inhabitants surrounded by green hills, lies in its geographical location: it is the obligatory passage for ferries arriving in Greece or leaving for Italy or Corfu. The town was destroyed by the German army and rebuilt in 1944. Its life is concentrated in the two streets that cross it. The most important one runs along the sea with countless cafes. The Turkish fortress of Igoumenitsa was destroyed in 1687 by the Venetian Francesco Morosini. There are many pleasant places to swim: Drepano, Makrigiali or the beautiful village of Plataria. How to get there. Port accessible by bus (www.ktel-thesprotias.gr).
