In the hollow of a bay in the Gulf of Corinth, the resort of Loutraki is nestled at the foot of impressive mountains that plunge into still, blue and translucent water. The bar of white buildings on the waterfront fails to break the natural balance; and the long sandy beach stretches like a ribbon along the pedestrian promenade. Terraces of cafés and restaurants are overflowing with Athenians every weekend, who also take advantage of the summer to swim and practice some water sports. The streets of the city centre, less frequented, remain the stronghold of the locals. A marina houses a few boats.
