Located north of Split, on the road to Sinj, stands the fortress of Liberated, 340 m above sea level. It was built by Romanian-Croat kings to defend the collar separating the massif of Kozjak and Trips from the invaders and, in particular, the Turks. They came from within the country to conquer the coast and the fortress was the scene of bloody clashes. Yet in the 1648 th century the Ottoman army attacked, before being kicked in by a Venetian general. The French will fortify the fortress to make it a strategic bastion. It was during the Second World War that the fortress of Liberated was used for military purposes by the Italian and German armies. Finally it was since 1990 that the flag of the Croatian Republic overcame it.
