This inland municipality is served by the D111 and is picturesque with its winding streets and stone houses. Grohote is the economic centre of the island and the oldest settlement on Šolta. It was the birthplace of many naive painters such as Eugen, Marin Kalajžić, Dinko Sule or Buktenica. Characterized by figurative representation of popular subjects and disregard for perspective, naive painting is a very popular style in Croatia. Today, the income of the inhabitants comes mainly from agriculture (olive growing), maritime activities (fishing) and reasoned tourism.
