Gawr as-Safi is a small rural village located after Potash city, the large industrial complex from which Jordan derives its potash resource. It lies at the crossroads between the Wadi Araba road that crosses the desert to Aqaba, the Dead Sea road and the road that goes up to Tafilah and Dana. The population works at the nearby potash factory, but also in the fields. Gawr as-Safi is an oasis between the barren lands of the Dead Sea and the arid furrow that descends to the Red Sea. Palm groves, banana plantations and market gardens transform the landscape. The road leading up to Tafila offers superb views of the oasis.
