Population approx. 240. This small village is home to the great poet Oton Župančič; a museum has been dedicated to his work and legacy. Another major asset is the Kolpa. It's the river and its canoeing, swimming and fishing opportunities that attract locals and tourists alike. An 11th-century castle overlooks the river. Traces of early Neolithic settlement have been found in the Veliki Zjot cave, between Vinica and Učakovci. In 1919, the self-proclaimed republic of Vinica enjoyed a short-lived three-day existence. The economic crisis hit Vinica hard in the 1930s, leading to a major exodus.
