About 475 inhabitants. This tiny village is on the left bank of the Krka River, 6 km from Novo Mesto in the direction of Zagreb. Otočec is first and foremost a castle on a small island, transformed into a luxurious hotel. Originally, the castle is located on the right bank. It became an almost impregnable fortress after the Krka river bypass. The islet was then created with the imposing building, which was prepared to withstand attacks. It was first mentioned in 1252 and underwent Renaissance and Baroque transformations. The walls and corner towers date from the 16th century. The castle lost its military function when the Turks left. Today, many leisure activities are practiced there.
