About 700 inhabitants. You're on a very small island, but still! The Krka River makes a loop here. It's one of the country's oldest cities, with rights dating back to 1252. It became a parish in 1220, and Illyrian, Celtic and Roman artefacts have been found here. The golden age came to an end with the death of the last successor.The Counts of Gorica and then Celje took over, before giving way to the Habsburgs. The island is covered in no time at all. Its historic buildings are superseded by the magnificent castle-museum 1 km to the south. This municipality, the smallest in the country, celebrated its 760th anniversary in 2012.
