Nestling at the foot of Mount Jelovica, some ten kilometers from Radovljica, the village of Kropa stands out for its tall houses. Designed to accommodate three or four families, they reflect the typical architecture of the "mining countries" of yesteryear. They now bear witness to the glorious past of this valley of forges. A furnace dating back to the 13th century has been discovered here, known as a "Slovenian furnace". In the 19th century, two ironworks and nineteen forges were in operation. Only one remains today, specializing in wrought iron. Kropa stands in the middle of nature on the left flank of the mountain range.
