Perched on a hill, Maroni has a real cachet, with its traditional architecture, pine, palm and lemon trees, good tavernas and pretty Agios Georgios church (1901). The village owes its name to a Maronite community that lived here in the Middle Ages. It lost its Turkish Cypriot inhabitants after their forced departure in 1963. A small beach lies 3.5 km to the south.
