At first glance, South Cyprus's3rd most populous city is a disappointment: unbridled tourist development, unbeautiful beaches, expensive hotels... And yet we love it! Its archaeological sites are fabulous, and two of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The most important, Nea Paphos, is an enchantment, not only for its marvellous Roman mosaics, but also for its completely unspoilt seaside environment. The same applies to the Tombs of the Kings, also along the shore. In fact, everywhere in the city, the past resurfaces here and there, between nightclubs and parking lots. So much so that, after three days, you continue to go from pleasant surprise to pleasant discovery. We recommend staying in the upper town, particularly in the Ktima district. Once populated mainly by Turkish Cypriots (expelled in 1974), this is a pleasant area with unspoilt Islamic monuments, budget hotels, parks and pretty alleyways forgotten by the hordes of tourists...
